The thought of oral sex can be exciting. In fact, everyone wants to try it. Most people have the mentality that you do not have to take any precautions when having oral sex with the belief that the only time you can have sexual contaminations is when using the private parts. That is far from the truth.

What is oral sex? This is the act of sexual intimacy that involves the mouth and the private parts. It could be the mouth to vagina or mouth to the penis, or even you could decide to be extra and the mouth to anus. Most people use slang to refer to this act with terms like rimming, head job, or blow job.

Can you get pregnant through oral sex? The simple answer is no. This, however, does not mean that you should not take extra caution. Remember STI’s are real. Ask your partner if they are safe. Do not go through with it if one of you is undergoing treatment or has experienced any STI symptoms. Barrier methods

If you must have the oral sex, then you should consider using barrier methods to avoid coming into direct contact with your partner’s genitals. In fact, this is the most recommendable way to minimize the chances of getting an infection. Some of these barrier methods include;

Use of a plastic wrap such as cling wrap

The best thing about this method is that it is inexpensive, readily available and it covers a large surface. Your partner will also feel the heat through the wrap. How do you use it? You can cut a piece of the wrap and use it to cover the vulva area. Add some lubricant as it helps to increase sensitivity.

Use of licks or dental dams

This method gives you a latex barrier, and even better, it comes in different flavors, so you get to choose your favorite. The drawback, however, is that they are somehow hard to find and they cover a small area. How do you use them? Put the latex square on the vulva area and depending on the type you choose, there are some that stay in place while some need to be held in place for maximum protection. You can opt to add some lubricant to increase sensitivity but ensure to use a water-based lubricant.

Use of condom

When giving head, the man should put on a condom. This is by far the best and easiest way. They are inexpensive and easy to find. How do you use it? The procedure is similar to the normal process of putting on a condom over the penis.
